Swedish big game hunter visits Side by Side Safaris for the third time

For the third year running, we have had the pleasure of hosting Swedish big game hunter, Anders Vestergren, on a safari. This times focus was on rare and exotic species such as Red Forest Buffalo, Blackbuck and one of Africa's smallest antelopes; Blue Duiker.

This two-week safari offered everything from luxury accommodation to record class trophies of rare species. In addition to Red Forest Buffalo, Swedish hunter Anders Vestergren was successful in collecting coveted species such as Lechwe, Tsessebe and Eastern Cape Kudu.

In addition to our own Klipplaat grounds, we have the hunting rights on several nearby concessions that offer a range of rare and exotic species. Besides the above-mentioned species, Anders Vestergren was also successful in bagging large trophies of Blackbuck, Axis stag, Red Deer stag and Mouflon ram. These species were all on Anders' want list, not just because they offer challenging hunting, but also because Anders needed them to complete his "SCI Grand Slam" collection.

Red Forest Buffalo is without a doubt the most dangerous and difficult to get of the species on want list. After a couple of hard hunting days, our experienced trackers managed to locate a shootable, very old bull which Anders shot at just twenty meters'' distance in dense cover.

At the other end of the scale, Anders Vestergren also had a desire to try for one of Africa's smallest antelopes, the elusive Blue Duiker. This part of the safari took place in terrain near the coast of the Indian Ocean. A specialist dog handler and his team of specially trained dogs try to drive the duikers out into clearings in the dense bush. Here the hunter waits with a loaded shotgun, ready to fire when the duiker appears. This makes for exiting hunting with shooting ranges that vary from only three to ten meters. Duikers were seen in almost all of the drives but it was only on the second day of hunting, Anders was successful in collecting the coveted trophy.
