Continuous success with night hunts for Bushpig
On a recent safari, our client had a strong desire to attempt the challenges of a night hunt on Bushpig. Bushpig are nocturnal creatures and the hunts are normally done by baiting. Up to one month prior to the arrival of a client, we will seek out a ravine that is suitable for baiting and where tracks indicate that Bushpig are active. Normally after some 14 days with continuous baiting – normally meat and fermented maize – the Bushpig begin to carefully approach the bait on a regular nightly basis.
Success with Bushpig hunting depends first of all on the population of Bushpig in the area. Secondly, it is very important to bait correctly. Last but not least, it is important to have the best night hunting equipment available so that it is possible to shoot safely. It is also important that the hide is positioned correctly – ideally approx. 50-60 meters from the bait and high about it to enable shots at a downward angle.
On this particular safari, our client was lucky to bag a huge Bushpig boar already on the first night, after only a few hours of waiting. This is one of several successful Bushpig hunts we have experienced during the past seasons. If Bushpig hunting appeals to you, please contact us for further information and available openings.
