Sightseeing trip to Graaff Reinet
A guided day trip. After breakfast, you will be picked up at the lodge by an experienced South African guide (English speaking) who will be your host for the whole trip. After a 2-hour drive west of our safari lodge, you arrive at the historic city ”Graaff-Reinet”, founded in 1786, which is the 4th oldest town in South Africa.
Graaff-Reinet has long been famous for its attractive and well-preserved historic homes and buildings. Graaff-Reinet boasts of several famous people, including Lord Somerset, Robert Sobukwe, Beyers Naude, Dr. Anton Rupert and Anna Neethling Pohl.
Just outside the town you find the "Valley of Desolation", which was declared as a national monument of geological importance, and is the leading tourist attraction in Camdeboo National Park. The name "Valley of Desolation" refers to the endless desert-plains seen from the spectacular viewpoint high up in the mountains. A visit to this place is a huge nature experience, far beyond the usual.
