Hunting Blue Duiker with Side by Side Safaris

Blue Duiker is one of the smallest antelopes on the African continent. Highly elusive and extremely fast, it is also one of the rarest trophies. Blue Duikers prefer dense bush with only a few meters of visibility. This makes the small antelope difficult to hunt. Normally the hunt is conducted with a small pack of specially trained dogs – usually beagles or Jack Russel terriers. The hunter is positioned at the edge of a small clearing with a shotgun, ready to fire. When the duiker comes bolting across the clearing, it normally leaves only a second or two for a shot, so it is a good idea to have practiced fast shots from home – ideally on the sporting clays rabbit range.

Our Blue Duiker hunts take place in a special terrain right next to the Indian Ocean. The landscape here is dominated by enormous sand dunes densely overgrown by almost impenetrable bush. The Blue Duiker in the photo was taken by a Danish hunter on a recent safari with us. Although tiny in appearance, it scored high enough to top the Nordic Safari Club trophy records.
