Caracal hunting with Side by Side Safaris

caracal.jpg

Caracal – also known as the African Lynx – is a medium-sized cat that is rarely seen in daylight. It prefers open bushland but is also well at home in rocky terrain. This makes Side by Side Safaris' Klipplaat grounds an ideal habitat for this handsome member of the cat family. Caracal is normally hunted at night with the help of powerful spotlights sweeping the terrain. Another popular form of hunting is with a pack of ten specially trained dogs that follows the fresh scent of a Caracal, eventually pushing it up into a tree and keeping it at bay until the hunter arrives for a shot.

The Caracal in the photo is the largest ever bagged by a member of the Nordic Safari Club. It was shot by a Danish hunter on a night hunt at Side by Side Safaris' Klipplaat grounds. We are pleased to note that we generally have a very high success rate on our Caracal hunts – regardless if our guests prefer the challenging hunt with dogs or the physically slightly less demanding night hunt with spotlights.
