Golden Wildebeest

The Golden Wildebeest is a rare variation/mutation in colour from the Blue Wildebeest. Side By Side Safaris was among the first safari providers in South Africa to offer hunting for this unique wild species, which can be hunted in the immediate vicinity of our luxurious safari lodge.

Golden Wildebeest thrive best in open plains, and will often be found grazing on the savannah.

Both sexes carry horns and are of similar size and colour, thus making it difficult to distinguish the bulls from the cows. The most obvious difference is that males have thicker horns and horn-bases.

Hunting Golden Wildebeest

This strong antelope requires a minimum calibre of .270 with a heavy bullet. A .300 Magnum with 200- or 220-grain bullets is another excellent alternative. Hunted in dense terrain, even larger calibres and heavier bullets could be recommended.

Golden Wildebeest is known to be extremely dangerous when it is wounded. Therefore it is strongly recommended to be ready to shoot again immediately after the first shot, if not the animal goes down immediately.
