The Four Horned Sheep (also known as Jacob’s Sheep) belongs to the sheep family and is believed to come from the Middle East around Syria. Today there is a stock in the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa, where Side By Side Safaris has the hunting rights.

A Four Horned Sheep is white with black/brown spots scattered over the body. The special thing about this sheep is its many horns. A Four Horned Sheep have anywhere from two to six horns. Normally it has 4 horns - two facing down and two facing up.

Four Horned Sheep live mainly in mountainous terrain where they eat grass and leaves and are preyed upon by leopards and eagles. Normally they live in herds and are primarily active during the day, and rests during the night.

Hunting Four Horned Sheep

In the hunt for Four Horned Sheep, flat-shooting rifle calibres are preferred as long shots often occur in the open mountainous terrain. The choice of riffle calibre for this wild species should be a .270, which will be effective for this purpose. It is not an especially large animal, hence big and powerful rifle calibres are not required for this hunt.
